Meet Our Hayward Golf Instructors

James Calceta, PGA
Class A, PGA Head Professional for Skywest Golf Course of Hayward. I have been with the Hayward Area Recreation & Park District since 2006. Being with Hayward Golf has enabled me to work with the wonderful staff and meet people from all over the Great San Francisco Bay Area.

I began my career in the Golf industry in 2001 working for a private golf course in the outside service department, was promoted to the Outside Service Manager in 2002. I worked my way to becoming an Assistant Golf Professional learning the ways of staffing, merchandising, marketing, and most importantly customer service. As an Assistant Golf Professional working at a private golf course I learned the importance of being proactive. I took the position at Skywest Golf Course as the Head Golf Professional in 2006-present. I keep up to date by being very active with golf seminars, player and teacher development forums, playing in NCPGA golf tournaments, and knowing the latest golf equipment. My soul purpose as a PGA Golf Professional is to promote the game of golf. I plan to continue my service with this community to provide the best golf facilities that H.A.R.D. can offer.

Darin Lee, Head Golf Professional
20+ years experience in Golf Instruction and Club Fitting
Certified Club Fitter for all the major club manufactures (Titleist, Cobra, Mizuno, Ping, Callaway). I developed successful adult, junior, corporate programs.

My philosophy is based upon teaching strong fundamentals which help build balance and power in the swing. My area of expertise has always been the short game and golf course management saving strokes on the golf course. I work with each student to help design a personal improvement program based on individual's goals.

Frank Vanisko, Teaching Professional
Frank has been teaching golf for the past seven years. He is an integral part of staff instructing adult and junior group classes. In the summer Frank is one of our lead instructors in junior camp programs. Frank is certified club fitter for Titleist, Cobra and Mizuno and would gladly assist anyone in finding the HOTTEST golf clubs fitted just for them.

Sonia Sohn, LPGA Teaching Professional
Sonia Sohn is a Class A, LPGA Professional with many years of teaching experience. She combines the fundamental techniques of golf along with sound understanding of each individual’s natural athletic abilities. She is patient and friendly, and will work closely with you at the pace that best fits your skills and expectations.
