Aficionados of traditional golf (at traditional prices) will find a highly agreeable experience awaiting them at Skywest Golf Course in Hayward. Bob Baldock designed this par-72 municipal course along classic lines when it debuted in 1964. Tree-lined fairways can cause the usual kinds of trouble for errant tee shots, though large greens tend to play true.
The par-3s all play long at 140-200 yards, and two lakes insist that you pay them attention on the front and back nines. The three former tee placements (6,789 yards from the back) were recently augmented by a new 5,406, par-73 option from the front. The back 9’s bent grass greens have just been rebuilt to complement the dramatic 6,000 square foot clubhouse that opened in 2005. What hasn't changed are the incredible rates that can get you on the course with a cart for as low as $25 weekdays—with many other specials that can sweeten your day.
